Stop Global Warming

Is GOP Gunning for the Green Recovery?

Published February 03, 2009 @ 12:37PM PT

Earlier in they day I opened an email from the "Country First" PAC, signed by Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), urging me to sign a petition against President Obama's economic recovery plan. (Phrased, however, to try and leave Senate Democrats holding the ball for its failure.)

An hour or two later, in comes another email -- this time from Green for All, the green jobs advocacy group founded by author-activist Van Jones, warning that "the right wing is mobilizing to kill" the economic recovery plan.

Coincidence?

It's striking that Mr. McCain, one of the few senators to co-sponsor bipartisan legislation to act against climate change, is taking an apparently partisan-politics-as-usual stand on the recovery plan. since among other things, it offers billions in funding to create jobs in renewable energy expansion, weatherization programs, and other tangible steps to curbing the global warming crisis.

I'm calling around to try and learn more...

The only "partisanship as usual" is saying the republicans are against the "stimulus package". There is no stimulus package. There is only a massive pork package. If the president blows his starting political capitol on this nonsense, then He will have inadequate support for a plan that may actually help the economy. If the republicans cause President Obama to re-think this, they will be more help to him than the idiots who came up with this monstrosity.
