Stop Global Warming

Tell The Obama Administration: It's Time To Put the Clean Back in The Clean Water Act

A recent Supreme Court ruling poses a severe threat to our nation's lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands, and reverses over three decades of responsible mining policy.

Please send a quick message to protect our clean water from toxic mine waste.

The June ruling exempts toxic mine waste -- classified as "fill" -- from certain regulations under the Clean Water Act: legalizing its dumping in our precious waters.

Ruling is absurd, and unnecessary
Congress enacted the Clean Water Act in 1972 to protect our waterways from being used as waste disposal sites. However, in 2002, the Bush administration redefined "fill" to include industrial waste, permitting mining companies to dump toxin-laden waste material into our nation's waterways. It's unnecessary! For three decades, mining companies have been operating successfully without this type of irresponsible mine waste disposal.
Salmon. Now threatened by the 'Clean' Water Act

Ruling threatens salmon at Pebble, fisheries nationwide
This misguided decision has implications for clean water all over the country. Most immediately, to the proposed Pebble Mine in southwest Alaska, where mining giant Anglo American wants to build the nation's largest copper and gold mine at the headwaters of the world's largest wild sockeye salmon fishery! If applied in this case, the consequences to the fishery - and all who depend on it - would be devastating.

Take Action to protect our waters and fisheries:
Urge EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to protect our clean water and undo the rule that redefined industrial waste as "fill."

Thanks for taking action,
Bonnie Gestring and Alan Septoff, EARTHWORKS

Well, that is a strange one.
I don't know if I sent it or not ... or perhaps even sent it 3 or 4 times?

WAKE UP!!!! Revise the *fill* rule to protect clean water NOW!!!!

    Dear Administrator Jackson,

The Supreme Court recently issued a decision which authorizes the disposal of mine waste into our nation's lakes, rivers and streams.  The decision reverses nearly three decades of responsible mining policy.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST RIDICULOUS AND TERMINALLY STUPID THINGS i HAVE EVER HEARD.
I THINK IN THE FUTURE AN IQ TEST AND AT LEAST ONE COURSE IN ECOLOGICAL SCIENCES SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, ALL OF THEM, AS WELL AS ALL OF THEIR APPOINTEES ...

WE CANNOT SURVIVE IF SUCH STUPIDITY IS ALLOWED TO RUN ROUGH SHOD OVER ALL OF LIFE ...
SO WHO EVER EXPECTED THAT LIFE WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE A PEEP????
LIFE IS SCREAMING IN AGONY ALL OVER THE PLANET.
WHY CANNOT OUR SO-CALLED "LEADERS" SEE THIS AND USE SOME COMMON SENSE?

PART OF THE "CURE" FOR CANCER IS CLEAN, FRESH, HEALING WATER, H2O.
PART OF THE CAUSE OF CANCER IS FILTHY, POLLUTED, CHEMICALIZED, WATER ... RADIOACTIVE IN TOO MANY CASES, PHARMACEUTICALIZED IN TOO MANY OTHERS.
GROWING EPIDEMICS OF CANCER ARE A LARGE PART OF THE HEALTH CRISIS.

    SO??? ... WELL???? ... DDUUUUUHHH!!!!

THE ANSWERS AND SOLUTIONS ARE SIMPLE AND OBVIOUS AND COMMON SENSE AND ECONOMICAL.

WE MUST PROTECT OUR WATERS' HEALTH IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE HEALTH OF OUR LIVES AND THE LIFE ALL AROUND US, WHAT IS LEFT OF IT.

OUTLAW ALL INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION OF OUR WATERS AND CREATE FULLY FUNDED WORK PROJECTS TO CLEAN WHERE NEEDED, WHICH IS ALMOST EVERYWHERE????
THIS IS WORTH BORROWING MONEY FOR, THE WAR MACHINE IS NOT.

IMMEDIATELY BEGIN INTENSIVE PHASING OUT OF POLLUTING AND DESTRUCTIVE INDUSTRIES WHILE REPLACING THEM WITH ECO FRIENDLY SMALL INDUSTRIES TO MAKE THE THINGS WE NEED TO SURVIVE DAY TO DAY ...

WE DON'T NEED ALL THE TOYS THE CORPORATE WORLD IS DAZZLING THE MORE FORTUNATE WITH AT THE COST OF OUR LIVING SYSTEM CALLED PLANET EARTH ON WHICH WE ALL DEPEND.

    THIS AFFECTS EVERYONE BTW.
THAT IS WHAT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS DESTRUCTION.
HOW CAN OUR "GLOBAL MANAGERS" BE SO IGNORANT??????????
FINE, IF THEY WANT TO KILL THEMSELVES, LET EM .... BUT I DID NOT GIVE THEM PERMISSION TO KILL ME TOO! ...

NOR DO THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE KILLING ALL LIFE FOR SOMETHING SO MEANINGLESS AS PROFITS!!
    THE MEANING OF LIFE IS
    LIFE IS MEANINGFUL.
    LIFE IS WORTHWHILE.
    LIFE IS VALUABLE.
    KILLING IS NONE OF THESE.
IT IS JUST PLAIN TERMINAL STUPIDITY... OR INCREDIBLE IGNORANCE.

IF OUR "LEADERS" CANNOT PUT ASIDE THEIR DIFFERENCES AND JOIN THE REST OF THE HUMAN BEINGS WHO ARE CONCERNED ABOUT A FUTURE FOR ALL LIFE, WE WILL ALL BE DEAD LITTLE DUCKIES .. .. ALL OF US.

THERE WILL BE NO SAFE HAVEN FOR ANY LIFE BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO LIFE SUSTAINING CLEAN WATER.

WATER IS GOD'S NATURAL CLEANING SOLUTION.
    INSIDE AND OUT.
BUT NOT IF IT IS DIRTY WATER.
    THEN IT IS POISON.
    COMMON SENSE.

AND CLEANING UP OUR WATERS IS ONE GIANT STEP TOWARD TACKILING OUR GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS.

THIS IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO OURSELVES AND TO OUR LIVING SYSTEM CALLED PLANET EARTH, PART OF WHICH IS MADE OF WATER.

WE OURSELVES ARE MADE OF MORE WATER THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

    SO WHAT'LL IT BE?
    HEALING WATER?

OR A KIND OF WATER TORTURE.

The court's decision is based on a rule change under the Bush administration that changed the definition of "fill" -- effectively allowing mining companies to dispose of harmful mine waste into our nation's waterways.

This rule change was completely unnecessary! For three decades the mining industry has successfully operated without this type of irresponsible mine waste disposal.

This rule puts all our nation's lakes, rivers and streams at risk for pollution and destruction. But with your leadership, we can swiftly ensure that our waters remain clean, safe and protected.

I urge the Obama Administration to undo the changes made by the Bush administration in 2002 that redefined industrial waste and contaminated materials, as "fill" and then allowed this pollution to be dumped into America's waterways.

Please take immediate steps to reinstate the long-standing rule that "fill material" permits may not be used for industrial waste disposal.

    AT THE VERY LEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sincerely,

    AND TRULY,

Clean, drinkable water is essential to life~ We have shortages already, especially in other parts of the world.

For now at least, we are the most powerful country in the world.

Let us be the example to use our water wisely, keep it free or almost free, NOT owned by corporations, and keep it CLEAN!

Please, Ms. Jackson, mining companies are now polluting our waterways.  Salmon suffers. Kindly protect the Clean Water Act.  They now allow mines to pollute our waterways.  This needs to stop.
