"False facts are highly injurious to the progress of science, for they often endure long;" - Charles Darwin.
"If you see, hear, or read inaccurate reporting on science or global warming, drop a line to one of these media watchdogs" seems to be a call for information these watchdogs could actually *use* in an attempt to stop the rumormongering and get the real science out there.
Here's a tidy list of either misused science facts, or a complete lack of scientific data altogether (http://www.google.com/search?q=false+global+warming&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).

OH hope one day, for God's sake some people "wake up" in Argentina and start some action...so far it's all a bluff, nobody listens, people are dirty , using plastics....i hate that, but there's no plan from the goverment....they just don't care , they're more concern in their political targets and keeping the poors poor and ignorant and the rich get richer...the corruption is so big, that i don't see any chance of change, is sad, so sad, to live in this country with all the huge territories beautiful landscapes, and rich grounds...but, unfortunately, the president is keeping an ignorant look and her husband dictates his people to do as he wants....Democracy? yeah, right!

@ William Jewett: Like most people with your absurd and deluded politics, you don't understand how science works, you can't argue your way out of a wet paper bag, and you are barely literate. You pick a couple of pseudo-facts off some astroturf, industry-funded climate-change-denial blog that confirms your prejudices and spew them out in places like this. Yes, please, go away and wallow in your ignorance while we try to solve the truly terrible problems human society now faces as a result of runaway global warming. But just be quiet about it, OK?

In case you haven't already seen it, the blog Climate Progress is a great source of debunkery information. I found it useful when going after the odious little squit of a reporter who managed to get the "global cooling" story past editors at the BBC who should have known better.

It is important to make this pledge for the simple fact that misinformation can destroy someone life. When you make a comment that is not true and people start to believe you, then they miss out on something that they didnt know they could have took advantage of. For example, the Republicans say that the bill in the house covers abortion, and you have someone out there who believe in reforming healthcare and everyone need that person financial support, but the only thing standing in the way to help hundreds of people in his/her district is the misinformation of abortion. That person would help insured hundreds of people but dont believe in supporting abortion. Now she will not support healthcare reform because she thinks it will support abortions. We need to stop with the misinformation and tell the truth. What happen to the days where the truth was enough to have a honest debate?

Oh, good grief! No one is talking about spying, tattling or petty gossip! This is about calling out inaccurate or misleading REPORTING, folks. Make broadcast and print media accountable for scientifically accurate, unemotional presentation of actual fact-the who, what, where, when and if possible, why of events, all supported with actual evidence. No more propaganda. Whew!

This is a great idea!!! I just hope that when my heads-up is about disinformation coming from mediamatters and thinkprogress, that I am not wasting my time. I think I might also include and email to info@aim.org, http://newsbusters.org/contact, or mrc@mediaresearch.org.
