End Homelessness

According to the web site of Reusablebags.com, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are used, and discarded, annually worldwide, and it cites the EPA as estimating that Americans use over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks, and wraps every year. When these bags are discarded, they break down, and harm the environment by killing marine mammals and contaminating soil and water.
Knowing this, I think it's time we spread the word and pledge to use reusable bags ALWAYS!
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

It's funny... I used to be made fun of because I have been doing these things since I was small...
Keep it up!
:)

Pledge fulfilled Dec 30, 2008!
I love my little reusable bag collection. I keep on in my back pack just in case I need an extra bag. My husband keeps one in the car. We have a couple at home and I keep one at work so there's always one available and I never have to get a "disposable" bag from the store.
The grocery stores are used to people using their own bags but other stores, like clothing stores. They look at you like you are delusional if you decline a shopping bag. Ah well, I like it when people think I'm crazy.

For many years I have been using re-usable cloth bags most of the time when shopping for groceries and spread the message to my friends

Okay Brian - I hear you about driving to the grocery store. I live in FL - nice weather most of the time. I use cloth and insulated bags and from now on I walk to Publix. I had a total knee replacement 7 weeks ago and this will be an excellent continuation of my rehab. therapy. Pray for me!

...but every time I go to the grocer and I see other people filling their trunk with reusables I think, "I wonder how many plastic bags worth of oil they're burning on their way home? Thousands?" Anybody want to venture at the math? Not saying reusables are bad. Everything counts. That's what I'm saying. So now I walk to the store almost every time. Yeah, I thought about that when I picked where I live. Glad I did.

Our local grocer sells insulated reusables. Their way better for carrying things. For a few weeks I kept forgetting to bring my own, so every time I made myself buy new ones. That taught me pretty quick. So now I give the extras to friends as a gentle nudging.

And people ask why I have such a large purse...
Quinta Wilkinson Wichita Falls, TX @ 06:04AM PST Dec 24
I have had some since the early 1980's I think. I use them a lot. They have become a bit thin so I have picked up some new larger ones.
