Message: Dear Representative,, Our addiction to fossil fuels and the pollution they create are at the root of many of our most pressing health, economic, and environmental challenges. But in the face of these challenges, the federal government has offered no leadership or meaningful solutions. To fill the vacuum, individual states are taking steps to do what Washington has not. Under Governor Schwarzenegger, California has enacted aggressive legislation to raise fuel standards and cut auto emissions. And now 11 other states have adopted the same standards. But the auto industry is fighting back and Washington is getting in the way. I am writing to make sure our state has joined this growing movement. Please let me know the status of our emissions standards and whether we are helping to fight back against the special interests and Washington bureaucrats who oppose better standards. It is very important to me that state leaders demonstrate true leadership and courage on this matter. I am gravely concerned about the health and environmental consequences of increasing pollution. And at the end of the day, gas is simply too expensive around here. I need your help and look forward to your reply.
